Save the lakes from the zombie plant that is Eurasian water-milfoil.
A zombie plant is trying to kill Quebec’s lakes. This is not only an environmental issue, but also an economic one. According to the Radio-Canada report below (in French only), this plant has spread to at least 190 lakes in Quebec as of July 2019.
According to this same report, the municipality of Austin, in the Eastern Townships – where O’Malley Pond (called O’Malley Lake in the report) is located – has invested more than $100,000 in five years to eradicate this plant.
Nevertheless, you can do something simple and proactive to avoid getting to that point. You should always take your craft and wash it manually or with a sprinkler before putting it back into a body of water, such as a lake.
